Who does CrossNation recruit for outside Melbourne?

CrossNation takes briefs from employers in regional Victorian towns and cities. We search for candidates who already live in Australia and for candidates overseas, record each person's qualification, registration or licence status and work rights so you can verify them, and you decide who to interview. The sector pages explain the role, the award and the screening checks.

These city and town pages carry their own Census figures and pay rules:

Where is CrossNation, and how does it serve regional Victoria?

CrossNation Education Services Pty Ltd is registered in Mildura, Victoria (VIC 3500). That is our registered location, not an office. We do not run an office in any regional Victorian town or city. Regional employers send a brief through the enquiry form, and we recruit for them from our offices in Melbourne, Coventry, Mohali and Dubai. CrossNation serves employers in all Australian cities and regions.

What do the Census numbers say about regional Victoria?

The tables below set six local government areas side by side. Mildura, Warrnambool and Swan Hill have their own pages; Greater Shepparton, Horsham and Wodonga appear in these tables only.

How do six regional Victorian areas compare?

This page compares six regional Victorian local government areas on the same ABS 2021 Census fields: Mildura, Greater Shepparton, Swan Hill, Horsham, Warrnambool and Wodonga. Greater Shepparton had the most residents (68,409) and Horsham the fewest (20,429).

Median age ran from 38 in Wodonga to 42 in Warrnambool, against 38 in Victoria. Median weekly household income ran from $1,341 in Mildura to $1,341 in Mildura, against $1,759 in Victoria.

Hospitals was the largest industry of employment in 5 of the 6 areas. In Wodonga it was Defence, with 1,168 employed residents (5.6%). The share of residents aged 85 and over ran from 2.0% in Wodonga to 3.2% in Horsham, against 2.2% in Victoria.

Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong are not in these tables because their pages use ABS statistical areas, not local government areas, and the two geographies are not comparable. Their own Census figures are on their pages. These are ABS 2021 Census figures. They describe the area, not CrossNation's own placements.

The ABS adjusts small counts in its DataPack tables, so the figures may not add up to the total. They are printed as the ABS prints them, with no percentage worked out from them.

Do award rates change outside Melbourne?

Wages are separate from our fee and follow the award or enterprise agreement that covers the role. The award minimum rates our pay pages print are national: they are the same in every state, and they do not change with the town. Check the award for the specific role and Fair Work for the latest rates.

Which regional Victorian postcodes does Home Affairs list as regional?

Home Affairs' designated regional area postcodes page lists Victorian postcodes in two groups. Category 2, cities and major regional centres, includes 3211 to 3232, which covers the Geelong postcode 3220. Category 3, regional centres and other regional areas, includes 3345 to 3424, which covers the Ballarat postcode 3350, and 3430 to 3799, which covers the Bendigo postcode 3550 and the Mildura postcode 3500.

The page lists postcodes, not local government areas. The subclass 491 and 494 visa pages say those visas are for living and working in designated regional areas. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent. CrossNation is not a registered migration agent.

How does hiring in regional Victoria work with CrossNation?

  1. You send the role, location, start date and whether you want candidates based in Australia, overseas, or both.
  2. We search for candidates who match the brief and record their qualification, registration or licence status and work rights so you can check it.
  3. You interview the shortlist and choose who to offer.
  4. We coordinate the offer with you and the candidate. Our fee is 12% for roles under $50k, 15% for $50k–$90k, 18% above $90k, 20% executive, charged on first-year remuneration (salary plus super), plus GST, with a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement.

How to choose a staff recruitment agency in Australia

These checks work for any agency. Each one is something you can ask for or verify before you send a brief.

  1. Fee basis in writing

Ask for the percentage, what it is charged on and the event that makes the fee payable, in writing, before you send a brief.

CrossNation: CrossNation's fee is 12% for roles under $50k, 15% for $50k–$90k, 18% above $90k, 20% executive, charged on first-year remuneration (salary plus super), plus GST, and only when a placement succeeds.

  2. Guarantee terms in writing

Ask for the guarantee period and how it applies in the agreement you sign, not only on the agency's website.

CrossNation: CrossNation placements carry a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement. See our terms.

  3. How candidates are screened

Ask what the agency checks before it shortlists a candidate, and what record it keeps, such as qualifications, registration or licence status and work rights, so you can verify each one yourself.

CrossNation: CrossNation records each candidate's qualifications, registration or licence status and work rights so employers can verify them.

  4. Migration agent involvement

If you are considering an overseas hire, ask who gives visa advice. Only a registered migration agent can give migration advice, and the register of migration agents is public (https://www.mara.gov.au/). This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent.

CrossNation: CrossNation is a recruitment agency, not a registered migration agent. The employer holds or obtains its own approval.

  5. References

Ask for referee details for a candidate you are shortlisting, call the referees yourself, and ask the agency how it checks references and what it passes on to you.

Which regional Victorian postcodes does Home Affairs list as regional?

Home Affairs lists 3211 to 3232 (which covers Geelong's 3220) in Category 2, cities and major regional centres, and 3345 to 3424 (Ballarat's 3350) and 3430 to 3799 (Bendigo's 3550 and Mildura's 3500) in Category 3, regional centres and other regional areas. The page lists postcodes, not local government areas. The subclass 491 and 494 visa pages say those visas are for living and working in designated regional areas. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent. CrossNation is not a registered migration agent.

Does CrossNation recruit for Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong employers?

Yes. Each has its own page with its own Census figures, and they use ABS statistical areas rather than local government areas, so they are not in the tables on this page.

How do regional employers brief CrossNation?

Send the role, location, start date and whether you want candidates based in Australia, overseas or both through the enquiry form. We search against the brief, record each candidate's qualification, registration or licence status and work rights, and you choose who to interview. Our fee is 12% for roles under $50k, 15% for $50k–$90k, 18% above $90k, 20% executive, charged on first-year remuneration (salary plus super), plus GST, with a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement.

What does staff recruitment cost with CrossNation?

CrossNation's fee for staff recruitment is 12% for roles under $50k, 15% for $50k–$90k, 18% above $90k, 20% executive, charged on first-year remuneration (salary plus super), plus GST, and only when a placement succeeds. If no placement is made, there is no fee. Placements carry a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement. Wages, superannuation and other employment costs stay with the employer.

How long does it take to recruit staff through CrossNation?

It depends on the candidate and on bodies CrossNation does not control, such as registration boards, licensing regulators and the Department of Home Affairs, so CrossNation does not give a timeline. Many employers ask for both onshore and overseas candidates so an urgent vacancy is not held up.

What are an employer's responsibilities when sponsoring an overseas worker?

The Department of Home Affairs says a standard business sponsor has obligations to meet while it sponsors someone. They include telling the department in writing when certain events occur, such as the sponsored person ceasing employment or a change in their duties, making sure the person works only in the occupation nominated, giving terms and conditions of employment that are not less favourable than those of an equivalent Australian worker, keeping records, and cooperating with inspectors. The sponsor must also pay the costs of the recruitment process itself, including recruitment agent fees, and must not charge them to the sponsored worker. A sponsor that does not meet its obligations can face sanctions. The employer is the sponsor. CrossNation is a recruitment agency, does not sponsor and cannot promise a visa or an approval. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent.
