Retail recruitment for Australian employers

CrossNation recruits store managers, assistant managers, team leaders and retail assistants for Australian employers. Retail is a high-volume, award-based market, so the useful part of a search is a clear brief on pay, roster and trading hours. We shortlist and you choose.

What employers ask

What to know before you start

What does a retail brief need?

Say the store format, trading hours, whether weekends and late nights are rostered, and the targets or KPIs that come with the role. Managers need the headcount and the P&L they own. Candidates compare roster and pay closely in retail, so give the real figures.

What did the 2026 wage review change?

The Fair Work Commission's 2026 Annual Wage Review increased modern award minimum wages by 4.75 per cent and the National Minimum Wage by 6 per cent from 1 July 2026, according to ABC News. About 21.1 per cent of Australian employees, almost 2.8 million people, are paid at an applicable award minimum, so retail pay is tightly linked to the award. Check the General Retail Industry Award [MA000004] and the Pay Calculator for the current rate.

What do the ABS numbers show?

Retail trade had 32.4 thousand job vacancies in August 2026, up from 28.7 thousand a year earlier and the highest of the last six quarters. The quarterly series is volatile, with 26.0 thousand in May 2026, so read a single quarter with care. We recruit for permanent and contract roles rather than seasonal supply.

Do you place overseas retail staff?

Our search starts with people who already have the right to work in Australia. For senior roles, we can source sponsorship-ready overseas candidates where the employer holds or obtains its own approval.

Tell us the role, location and start date

The fee is 12% of the candidate's annual salary, charged only when a placement succeeds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you recruit casual retail staff?

We focus on permanent and contract placements. Tell us what you need and we will say whether it fits.

Which award covers retail staff?

Usually the General Retail Industry Award 2020 [MA000004], unless an enterprise agreement applies.

Can you recruit retail managers for regional stores?

Yes. CrossNation recruits for employers in every state and territory, including regional areas.

What does retail recruitment cost?

Our fee is 12% of the candidate's annual salary and applies only if a placement succeeds, and each placement carries a 90-day placement guarantee. Wages, superannuation, uniforms and store training are separate from our fee, and weekend and evening penalty rates affect the roster cost.

Can CrossNation sponsor an overseas retail manager?

No. The employer sponsors. Eligibility depends on the occupation and the salary offered, so ask your registered migration agent before you advertise. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent.
