What job seekers ask

What to know before you start

How does teacher registration work?

Before you teach, you register in the state or territory where the school is. AITSL explains the national standards but does not register you. If you will be around children you also need a working with children check or your state's equivalent. Processes differ, so start early.

What if you trained overseas?

If you trained outside Australia, AITSL runs the teacher skills assessment for skilled visas. For early childhood teachers, an ACECQA presentation from 2023 said the task would pass to ACECQA in late 2024, so confirm who assesses you now. Assessment and state registration are different steps, and CrossNation cannot promise a job or a visa.

What does the market look like?

Employers reported about 10.1 thousand open positions in education and training in the August 2026 quarter, fewer than a year earlier. The group spans schools, universities and vocational education, so your subject, year levels and location matter more than the headline.

How do you stand out?

List your registration status, subjects, year levels and any specialist training such as special education. Add your availability and the states you would consider.
