Engineering recruitment for Australian employers

CrossNation recruits engineers, engineering technologists and associates for Australian employers in construction, resources, utilities and manufacturing. We search candidates already working in Australia and sponsorship-ready overseas candidates, and we record each candidate's qualification and accreditation evidence so you can verify it before you offer.

What employers ask

What to know before you start

What should an engineering brief include?

Name the discipline and the level: professional engineer, engineering technologist or engineering associate. Those are the three levels Engineers Australia uses when it accredits courses, and candidates often describe themselves in those terms. Add the project stage, the software or standards the role needs, site versus office split and whether registration or chartered status matters. A clear level and discipline keeps the shortlist to people who can do the work on day one.

How do you check an engineering qualification?

Engineers Australia is the approved accreditation body for engineering education in Australia, so an accredited Australian degree is the simplest evidence. For a degree earned overseas, candidates often hold a Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accord qualification, or go through a competency demonstration report. We record which route each candidate has used. Some states also require registration for certain engineering work, so check your state regulator for the role you are filling.

What does demand look like?

Two ABS industry groups that include engineering employers are shown above. Professional, scientific and technical services had 29.5 thousand job vacancies in August 2026, down from 34.3 thousand a year earlier, while electricity, gas, water and waste services rose from 3.3 to 3.9 thousand. These are ABS counts of all vacancies in each industry, not engineering roles alone, so read them as background and not as a shortage measure.

Can you source engineers from overseas?

We can source sponsorship-ready overseas engineers for employers who want them. Their qualification assessment and any state registration need to line up with the role, and the employer holds or obtains its own approval. Our overseas hiring guide covers the general employer steps, and we tell you where each candidate is in the process.

Tell us the role, location and start date

The fee is 12% of the candidate's annual salary, charged only when a placement succeeds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you recruit graduates as well as experienced engineers?

We recruit at the levels your brief names. Tell us whether you want graduates, experienced engineers or technologists and we will screen for that.

Is engineering pay set by an award?

Many engineers are employed under enterprise agreements or individual contracts, and some fall under the Professional Employees Award. Check which instrument covers the role before you set a salary.

Do engineers need a licence in Australia?

Engineering is not registered nationally, but some states regulate certain engineering work. Check the regulator in the state where the engineer will work.

What do you charge for engineering recruitment?

Our fee is 12% of the candidate's annual salary and applies only if a placement succeeds, and each placement carries a 90-day placement guarantee. Salary, superannuation, software licences and any professional membership you fund are separate costs for you.

Can CrossNation sponsor an overseas engineer?

No. The employer sponsors and CrossNation shortlists sponsorship-ready engineers. An engineering skills assessment is a separate step your migration agent can explain. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent.
