What is the Adelaide childcare employer base like?

Greater Adelaide had 1,387,290 residents at the 2021 Census and a median age of 39, against 38 for Australia. 74,749 residents were aged 0 to 4 (5.4%, against 5.8% nationally) and 81,431 were aged 5 to 9 (5.9%). Community and personal service workers made up 13.2% of employed residents against 11.5% across Australia, and aged care residential services employed 3.2% against 2.1%, so an Adelaide childcare provider recruits in the same care workforce as a large aged care sector. The Census counts residents rather than roles. Childcare recruitment in Adelaide goes more smoothly with a clear brief on suburb, room and roster rather than a general call for educators.

What does a South Australian provider have to verify for the Working with Children Check?

South Australia puts duties on the employer. The SA Government says you must not employ a new person, or continue to employ a person, in a prescribed position unless you have verified that they have had a Working with Children Check in the preceding five years and are not prohibited from working with children. Verification is done through the organisation portal, which generates a Certificate of Interrogation, and the government says sighting a person's outcome email is not sufficient. Providers must also keep records of when they verified an employee and manage renewal every five years. We record what a candidate tells us they hold, but verification is the provider's step, so allow for it before a start date.

How do South Australian ratios, registration and the regulator fit together?

South Australia uses one educator to eleven children from 36 months up to and including preschool age and one to fifteen above preschool age, with one to five from 24 to 36 months and one to four under that age. ACECQA says all early childhood teachers in South Australia must be registered, with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia as the authority, and the Education Standards Board is the regulatory authority for services. The national rules require at least half the educators counted to hold, or be actively working towards, an approved diploma. South Australia is also listed among the jurisdictions with their own qualification rules for outside school hours care, so state in the brief which approved qualifications you accept.

Do Adelaide centres need a permanent recruiter or relief staffing?

Searches for childcare recruitment agencies Adelaide return both. As a childcare recruitment agency in Adelaide, CrossNation handles early childhood recruitment for permanent and contract roles against a brief and does not run relief rosters. A provider with an opening in the northern suburbs, the south or the Adelaide Hills should say which, along with the age group, the qualification level and the hours. We shortlist, you interview and decide, and we coordinate the offer. Providers who want overseas educators can brief us for sponsorship-ready overseas candidates; the employer holds or obtains its own approval, and CrossNation cannot promise a visa, an approval or a job. Questions from employers in Adelaide

Are you one of the childcare recruitment agencies in Adelaide?

CrossNation is a childcare recruitment agency registered in Mildura, Victoria (VIC 3500) that recruits for Adelaide and South Australian providers. We do not run an Adelaide site. We recruit permanent and contract educators and teachers against a brief.

How does an Adelaide provider verify a Working with Children Check?

Through the organisation portal, which generates a Certificate of Interrogation. The SA Government says sighting a person's outcome email is not sufficient, and that employers must keep a record of each verification.

Do early childhood teachers need registration in South Australia?

ACECQA says all early childhood teachers must be registered in South Australia, with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia.

What are the South Australian ratios for preschool-age children?

One educator to eleven children from 36 months up to and including preschool age and one to fifteen over preschool age, counted across the whole service.

What do recruitment agencies in Adelaide charge?

Our fee is 12% for roles under $50k, 15% for $50k–$90k, 18% above $90k, 20% executive, charged on first-year remuneration (salary plus super), plus GST, with a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement. Other recruitment agencies set their own fees, so ask each one how it is calculated and when it is charged.

How long does it take to recruit childcare educators through CrossNation?

It depends on the candidate and on bodies CrossNation does not control, such as registration boards, licensing regulators and the Department of Home Affairs, so CrossNation does not give a timeline. For childcare, those steps can include qualification assessment by ACECQA. Many employers ask for both onshore and overseas candidates so an urgent vacancy is not held up.

What are an employer's responsibilities when sponsoring overseas childcare educators?

The Department of Home Affairs says a standard business sponsor has obligations to meet while it sponsors someone. They include telling the department in writing when certain events occur, such as the sponsored person ceasing employment or a change in their duties, making sure the person works only in the occupation nominated, giving terms and conditions of employment that are not less favourable than those of an equivalent Australian worker, keeping records, and cooperating with inspectors. The sponsor must also pay the costs of the recruitment process itself, including recruitment agent fees, and must not charge them to the sponsored worker. A sponsor that does not meet its obligations can face sanctions. The employer is the sponsor. CrossNation is a recruitment agency, does not sponsor and cannot promise a visa or an approval. This is general information, not migration advice. Speak to a registered migration agent.

What happens if a childcare educator placed through CrossNation leaves?

Placements carry a 90-day replacement guarantee (replacement, not refund), subject to our agreement. How it applies is set out in the agreement between CrossNation and the employer, so ask for the guarantee terms in writing before you sign. See our terms at https://crossnation.com.au/terms. The guarantee is not a promise of any offer, visa or migration outcome.
