What do Queensland state school teacher aides do?
The Queensland Government says teacher aides support teaching and learning in state schools and work closely with teachers to develop and obtain resources, set up and operate equipment, complete administrative tasks and supervise students. The Department's generic role description lists supervising small groups on learning activities designed by a teacher, running reading and maths groups, supervising students on the playground and on excursions, and assisting students with special needs. That can include help with moving, positioning, meals, toileting and dressing. The description says health procedures are carried out under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered nurse or medical practitioner, so ask what a particular school expects.
